What We Do
A defining project for Healthy Communities of Henry County has been the FUN playground at Baker Park in New Castle. We built the playground with the help of countless volunteers, including many children, and continue stewardship of this impressive facility, one that all Henry County residents can be proud of. We are celebrating the tenth anniversary of the playground this year with a little sprucing up. Can you help us out? We need volunteers and a few more dollars to do a proper job of it.
We have sponsored the planting of thousands of trees in Henry County. These trees help cool and oxygenate our air, protect our water, offset carbon emissions, provide habitat for birds and other wildlife, and beautify our surroundings. More importantly they constitute an investment in the future of our county and a gift to our children and grandchildren.
We also sponsor a few exercise events each year. Although some of these events, such as our annual Stride and Ride, double as fund-raisers, their primary purpose is to provide encouragement and opportunity for people to get out and enjoy the outdoors with a little healthy exercise. Some of these events, such as Ride Your Bike to Work Day and Walk a Child to School Day are designed to open minds to more healthy and sustainable lifestyle alternatives.
Our most ambitious project to date is the construction of over a hundred miles of trails and greenways. Visit our trails page to learn more about this bold and comprehensive undertaking.
