Bell-ringers for the Salvation Army
Our volunteers often work with other volunteer committees in the
community. Each December, Shelia Marion, Healthy Communities Volunteer,
organizes some of our group to help the Salvation Army with their
Bell-ringer Program.
In December 2003 the Healthy Communities Ringers brought in an
award-winning $778.07 for the Salvation Army. In December 2004, they raised that amount to an astonishing
$2045.11!
In
December
2005, our volunteer crew (listed below) rang bells & played the violin for the Kroger
customers who filled our bucket to over-flowing! The Christmas eve
collection was $1087.52 which brought the Healthy Communities group
collection total to $2975.22 for 2005.

Reach Out and Read
Healthy Communities donated several new books including
The Lorax, The Wump World, The Empty Lot and Farewell to Shady Glen to the Reach Out and Read Project coordinated by Dr. Amy Carter. The project has volunteers who sit in the
doctors’ offices and read to the children in the waiting room. It helps calm the atmosphere of the waiting room, it entertains the kids, and for some kids and parents
it’s a first introduction to the joy of reading to a child. If you want to volunteer, contact Amy at
amcarter@hcmhcares.org.
