2002–2003 Card Collecting Results

Mrs. Wyatt's class enjoys their pizza party!

Second graders win pizza party

Healthy Communities of Henry County is pleased to announce that Mrs. Wyatt’s second grade class at Knightstown Elementary collected 2,280 greeting cards and has won a pizza party courtesy of Mancino’s Pizza.

The cards are collected for the St. Jude’s Ranch for Children. The ranch shelters abused children and teaches them skills for improving their lives. One of their projects is to take the front of used greetings cards of all types and create new cards, which they sell. The money earned from card sales helps cover the children’s expenses.

Knightstown Elementary also had the distinction of being the elementary school in the county that collected the most cards - over 11,000!

Eleven of the fifteen elementary schools in the county participated including Agape Learning Center, Eastwood, Greenstreet, Riley, Kennard, Knightstown Elementary, Renaissance Child School, Shenandoah Elementary, Sunnyside, Westwood, and Wilbur Wright. Combined, these schools brought in almost 60,000 cards – that’s as many as were brought in last year by schools AND businesses! What a great effort!

Henry County collects more than 80,000 cards for abused children

Healthy Communities of Henry County is pleased to announce that this year’s St. Jude Card collection surpassed last year. The additional cards were brought in by greater participation by the county’s elementary schools and the efforts of the 22 area businesses that collected cards.

The cards are collected for the St. Jude’s Ranch for Children. The ranch shelters abused children and teaches them skills for improving their lives. One of their projects is to take the front of used greetings cards of all types and create new cards, which they sell. The money earned from card sales helps cover the children’s expenses.

The 22 businesses that aided in collection were Ameriana (Trojan Lane), Ameriana Downtown, Americare, Cardinal Pharmacy, CEC Office, Cross-Eyed Cat, Danielson Center, Greentree, Hallmark, HealthRidge, Henry County Memorial Hospital, Heritage House, Hickory Creek, Mancino's, Marilyn Flowers, McGrady Pharmacy, NCHC Library, Neighborhood Pharmacy Forest Ridge, Scrapbook Serenity, Senior Citizens Center, The Waters, and the Henry County YMCA.

Not only does this effort aid the children at St. Jude’s, but it keeps the waste out of our landfills and allows the cards to be reused.

This project was sponsored by Mancino’s Pizza, Hinsey-Brown and Three Rivers Solid Waste Management District.
