The NRHT in Raysville
Raysville is the small town just across the Big Blue River and directly east of Knightstown on the south side of US 40. The trailhead for the Raysville section of the NRHT is at the SE corner where West Street, Star Blvd., and Church Street converge. The trail proceeds uphill from the parking lot on blacktop then east for 1¾ miles on a crushed limestone base, suitable for foot or fat-tire bicycle traffic.
The trail is mostly wooded, quiet, and secluded. The last half-mile opens up a bit, with less cover overhead, and runs close to but still mostly out of sight of US40. It ends about ¼ mile west of County Road 425W. There is no access from the east.
From points west: Take US-40 to Knightstown. (Alt: take I-70 to Knightstown exit #115, go south on IN-109 to US-40, turn east onto US 40.) Go through Knightstown. As you leave town you will cross over the Big Blue River. Shortly after crossing the bridge you will come to an intersection with several businesses (but no traffic light). Bear right onto Church Street, passing north (to the left) of RJ's Lounge. Church Street ends at the trailhead. (There are numerous alternate routes. See map.)
From points east: Take US-40 towards Knightstown. (Alt: take I-70 to exit #123, go south on SR 3, turn right onto US-40.) About 3 miles west of Dunreith turn left on West Street, just past 625W (look for NRHT sign on left). Trailhead is about 1/4 mile ahead on your left at the first intersection (Star Blvd./Church St.).
From New Castle: Take SR-3 south to US-40 in Dunreith. Turn right on US-40. About 3 miles west of Dunreith turn left on West Street, just past 625W (look for NRHT sign on left). Trailhead is about 1/4 mile ahead on your left at the first intersection (Star Blvd./Church St.).
